What is Rising Damp?
Rising damp refers to the process where water in the ground gets drawn up into porous masonry elements like stone, brick, and mortar.
Think of your home’s masonry as a sponge, absorbing moisture through its microscopic channels. Trouble arises when this masonry has taken in excessive moisture, especially when accompanied by destructive salts, without an exit strategy.
Left unchecked, this dampness can jeopardise your home’s structural stability and pose health risks to you and your family. This phenomenon, often found in older buildings, is also known as salt damp or salt attack.
